The main partners are Somerset’s licensing authorities – the five district councils, NHS Somerset, Somerset County Council’s Trading Standards department, and the Avon and Somerset Constabulary.
Ch Supt Nikki Watson, police district commander for Somerset, said: “This is a really worthwhile initiative. We’re hoping this first award ceremony will inspire other licensees to come on board. Well run pubs and clubs encourage customers of all ages so the local economy benefits too.”
Jim Hunter from the Institute of Licensing said: "The institute has not previously actively taken part in any Best Bar None scheme but when we saw the outline of the scheme for Somerset we decided to get involved.
"Premises will only be awarded Best Bar None Status if they are providing safe and comfortable environments for their patrons. The scheme does not just look at front-of-house factors, it looks behind the obvious at factors such as adequate fire safety procedures, suitable first aid provision and well trained staff. For the participating venues, this accreditation will demonstrate that their premises are operating at a high standard."
