Somerset Best Bar None Presentation Ceremony 19th January 2010 17/02/2010

PUBS across Somerset are toasting their success following the Somerset Best Bar None awards presentation ceremony. They were handed their awards the black-tie event at Westlands Leisure Complex in Yeovil.

Check each region for individual awards decided by Police assessors, however best overall small premises was Mambo in Taunton and best overall large premises was Envy Nightclub in Street.

As well as the regional categories , Somerset County Gazette readers were asked to vote for their Friendliest Pub. This award was presented to the Star Inn, at Watchet, which also collected a £100 cheque for winning the Avon and Somerset Constabulary Heart of the Community award.

A Cheddar pub is the Best Bar None – for dogs! Our pedigree chums can tuck into a Sunday roast prepared for them or choose something else from a canine-friendly menu. The dogs' dinners netted landlord Nick Barrett of The Gardener's Arms in Cheddar Max's Award for the Most Dog Friendly Premises, sponsored by English Springer Spaniel Welfare.

He said: "Man's best friend is a dog so it seemed right to make a roast dinner for them. Dogs are welcome but not in the restaurant area. Where we are in Cheddar a lot of people walk with their dogs and tend to come in for their lunch, so why not dogs?"

Awards Ceromony Postponed. 31/10/2009

Somerset BBN awards night that was due to take place on Tuesday 24 November 2009 has now been postponed until Tuesday 19 January 2010. This is the first time such a scheme has been operated in Somerset, and organisers are delighted that it has attracted a large number of applicants. The black tie finale of the scheme has also received very high level of interest with further guests announcing attendance in the past two weeks.

To allow a little more time to make all the preparations and to commit sufficient staff resources needed, the organisers have decided to rearrange the event to Tuesday 19 January, in order to ensure that high expectations are met and that the expected 200 guests enjoy a high quality and memorable awards evening. Organisers are already finalising an even wider programme for January’s event, which will take place at Westlands Leisure Complex, Yeovil.
